The GO! schedule 2025 opens up to the participation of young people thanks to the participation plan, launched by EGTC Go. An important milestone will be reached with today’s workshop, Thursday 6 June, when the number of students involved will exceed one thousand. There is no capital of culture without the inclusion of youth: this is the European lesson of the last twenty years. From Kaunas to Matera, reaching Nova Gorica-Gorizia, there are various experimental forms that have affected the participation of young people in the activities of the European cultural capitals.
The inclusion of audiences who are not “ordinary professionals” nor art and culture specialists is the objective of the EGTC’s Outreach and Engagement plan (inclusion and participation plan). All this is developed in support of the artistic and cultural programming schedule of GO!2025 precisely to encourage a radical strengthening of the cultural ecosystem of the cross-border city thanks to the involvement of girls, boys, families with children and minority communities.
To date, in fact, thanks to the collaboration with schools, youth associations and universities in the city, hundreds of girls and boys from the cross-border city have been actively involved in defining the objectives of the common cultural development project. On Thursday 6 June, the Ecosystem Forum organized by the University of Nova Gorica will take place, where universities and students from six countries will meet to discuss youth and creative industries. In this context, EGTC Go will officially intervene as one of the stakeholders and will carry out the last youth workshop of this first phase, to reach “quota 1000”.
Among the schools with which the organization has collaborated so far, there are: Gimnazija Nova Gorica, “Dante Alighieri” state institute and “Scipio Slataper” high schools of the Gorizia high school center, Iss Simon Gregorčič Primož Trubar-Slovenian high school center, Isis ” Gabriele D’Annunzio-Max Fabiani”, Isis “Brignoli-Einaudi-Marconi”, Isis “Sandro Pertini” of Monfalcone, State Institute “RM Cossar Leonardo da Vinci”, Isis “Dante Alighieri” and Isis “Cankar-Zois-Vega” . In July some students will participate in a summer school in Chemnitz, Germany, the other city that will be European Capital of Culture in 2025 in parallel with Nova Gorica-Gorizia.
Furthermore, two youth participatory planning groups are scheduled to start in September, one dedicated to university students, the other to high school students. There are four pillars of the inclusion plan: the audience development processes which aim on the one hand to broaden cultural enjoyment and on the other to diversify the audiences who approach and participate in the cultural ecosystem of the territory. Furthermore, public participation processes (audience engagement) aim to include citizens in the decisions and orientations that influence the cultural program, making the system itself as strong, lasting and democratic as possible thanks to intense participation of the population .
«Gect is actively cultivating all sides of this quadrilateral» declares director Romina Kocina, «since the project of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 is something we write together.” Thanks to the help of specialized figures, it was possible to implement an involvement and participation plan that dedicates resources and energy to different audiences, in particular the young population, activating different channels and practices of active inclusion.
