Gas network failure: «The biggest event ever». Confcommercio: «We will ask for compensation»

If we can speak of some inconvenience for the residents left without access to the gas network, the position of the economic activities which, due to the fault, had to scale their offering. In fact, on Sunday over 1,500 users in the historic center of Trento they ran out of gas because a water leak from the city aqueduct infiltrated the pipes that transport the fuel.

Restoring the network

The technicians of Novareti they even worked at night to limit the inconvenience, however for the complete network restoration it may take a few days. In the meantime, businesses will have to deal with the disruption. «We are faced with an emergency situation, for our part we can only wait for the end of the restoration work, hoping that it will be as rapid as possible”, observes Massimiliano Peterlana, president of Fiepet Confesercenti. «In these hours we have been contacted by several associatesowners of bars, restaurants, hotels and bed and breakfasts”.

The businesses affected

Among the businesses affected were also the inn and B&B “Le Due Travi” in via del Suffragio. “Luckily our kitchen can count on an entirely electric induction hob, but in our four rooms there is no hot water – comments the owner Giuliano Travaglia – I will probably offer a discount to my customers to compensate for the inconvenience». However, other businesses fared worse and there was no shortage of those who had to lower their shutters. «This is an absolutely unexpected damage for which we will ask Novareti for compensation», declares Francesco Antoniolli, vice-president of the Trentino restaurateurs’ association and owner of the «Al Vò» restaurant. «Businesses like mine, with a gas stove, they had to rent equipment or only serve cold dishes, displeasing customers and bearing all the costs.”

Compensation

According to Antoniolli Novareti should have noticed the fault sooner and intervened more promptly to isolate the gas network: «The company’s technicians they are doing their best trying to facilitate the activities, yet Novareti should have been more prepared. Someone activities are closed from Sunday afternoonsor – concludes the vice-president of the restaurateurs’ association – we want adequate compensation”.
