“A completely unexpected tragedy, we feel great pain and bewilderment – confides the mayor Michele Crisetti on the phone with Qn.net -. This man was not known to social servicesI don’t even know that he was followed by the mental health center. He had never shown any problems. For this reason too, we are incredulous. From what the residents said, anyone he met in his path could be a potential victim.”

We spoke on the phone to a witness of this half hour of pure terror experienced by San Giovanni Rotondo. “At first I didn’t understand what was happening – she’s still upset she FL-. I heard screaming, I thought it was a fight over parking. I looked out and asked poor Mrs. Rachele’s daughter, who lives near me, what was happening. At that moment a boy was ringing his doorbell, he said he had already called 112. He was there a lot of terrified people.”

Then the witness focused on the protagonist of the scene. “I saw this man going up the hill, he was all bloody and completely naked. I thought of my father who lives near me and was looking out the window, I yelled at him to close the door. He didn’t understand what was happening, he looked at that man and said, he’s crazy. He shouted and punched parked cars. It was 2.10pm, more or less.”

At that time Rachele Covino was already dead. “In the end – continues the witness’ story – was stopped by the police. A truly chilling half hour. I was also scared for my father. And I can’t forget that man’s expression when he passed under my window. As if to say, we’ll see each other again later. It looked like a horror film.”
