The Concorso d’Eleganza of Villa d’Este in Cernobbio is underway in the exclusive setting of Lake Como, one of the most prestigious events for vintage cars in the world. The McLaren F1 with a 6-litre 12-cylinder BMW engine secured the Gold Cup. This is a supercar dating back to 1995 owned by the Englishman Tony Vassilopulos.
The car was designed by Gordon Murray
The peculiarity of this splendid car is that it has three seats on board with the driver’s seat in the centre. The car was designed by engineer Gordon Murray, author of several Formula 1 cars for both Brabham and McLaren during the 1980s. A total of 106 examples were produced, 28 of which with racing DNA.
The maximum speed of 384 km/h is a record
The car awarded with the Gold Cup has, however, a unique feature that distinguishes it from all the others produced: with a maximum speed of 384 km/h, in fact, the McLaren F1 is still the fastest production car ever produced thanks to a naturally aspirated engine. The prize awarded by the jury of the Villa d’Este Competition was justified.
