Investigations continue into the death of Angelo Onorato, husband of MEP Francesca Donato who was found dead yesterday with a band around his neck inside his car on a slip road on Viale Regione Siciliana in Palermo.

Since yesterday evening, investigators have been viewing the cameras located near the place where, shortly before 3pm yesterday, the businessman’s body was found. The car was parked in front of an empty building. But there is a well-known car dealership and other companies in the area that could help understand who and if Onorato had met anyone.

Listen until late evening yesterday at the Palermo Flying Squad as his wife and twenty-year-old daughter, Carolina Onorato, found the man’s body. The 55-year-old was expected for lunch but around 2.30pm his wife and daughter, having no news or messages from him, tried to track him down with their smartphone locator and found him dead in his car, a dark Range Rover, with his seatbelt still fastened and the strap tightened around his neck. According to the medical examiner, the death was due to suffocation, but it is not known at the moment whether it was a homicide or a suicide. Deputy Prosecutor Ennio Petrigni, who coordinates the investigation, is investigating and the hypotheses are different.

The investigators asked Francesca Donato and her daughter Carolina what the victim’s last movements were, but also if there had been any problems recently. It seems that the man had confided a financial concern to some friend. Francesca Donato reiterated to the police that her husband would have “never killed himself” and that he “was killed”. The Flying Squad, directed by Marco Basile, also listened until late to the man’s friends and relatives.

The letter to the lawyer friend

Among these, a lawyer friend of the victim appeared to the investigators to say that he had received a letter from Onorato some time ago. The contents are top secret. But it seems that he was talking about some economic problem due to disputes with some debtors. Yesterday morning Onorato would have had a work appointment with a man between Carini and Capaci (Palermo).

The daughter: “My father was killed”

“Inexact things have been said, so I feel the need to specify how things are: My father didn’t commit suicide, he was killed, He wasn’t a person who would have ever left his family like this, and above all, for how I myself together we found it for my mother. I tell you that it was not a suicide but a murder,” Carolina Onorato wrote on social media, on a black background. “Let no one dare say or even think that my father committed suicide – continues the girl – I really thank everyone for the messages of comfort, forgive me if I don’t reply”.
