Brilliant double by Marta Lombardini who wins singles and doubles in the Italian university championships. The national university championships took place in Campobasso from 20 to 24 May, electing the best rackets in the category. An excellent audience accompanied the tricolors on the fields ofAS Amateur Tennis Campobasso. Seventy-eight participants, of which thirty-one in the men’s singles, fifteen in the women’s singles, twenty in the men’s doubles and finally twelve in the women’s doubles, battled in the competition directed by the referee Alfonso Cibelli. In the women’s competition it was 2.6 from Rimini Marta Lombardini, representative of TC Viserba, to overcome the resistance of 2.3 Vittoria Modesti, seeded n.1, with a double tie-break (at 3 and 4 in the two sets). In the quarterfinals the girl from Romagna beat 2.5 Federica Joe Gardella (n.3) 6-2, 6-1 and in the semi-final she eliminated 2.4 Elena Bocchi (n.2) 1-6, 7-5, 6- 3.
The event was enriched by the presence of Davis Cup on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. The famous silver salad bowl was visited by hundreds of people, arriving in Campobasso from all over the Region.
The two singles finalists, Marta Lombardini And Vittoria Modesti joined forces to win the women’s doubles title: the two, seeded n.1, first beat Gobetti-Marenna 6-3, 6-0 and in the final Federica Gardella-Beatrice Ottone (n.2) by 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.
Meanwhile, tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am the undefeated Tennis Club Viserba returns to the field for the 4th day of the B1 series championship hosting the Tennis Club Perugia. The Umbrian team can field a good group of B2s, the French Emilien Voisin, Florent Bax and Enzo Wallart, Gian Matias Di Natale, the 2.3 Christian Campese and the 2.5 Daniele Chiurulli and Edoardo Betti.
