Two prison police officers were apparently injured. And others would be taken in hostage by prisoners armed. This is the outcome of the revolt that broke out inside the Benevento prison, due to a situation still in progress. The Sappe reported a critical situation, with a detention section destroyed by the rioters and two operators seriously injured due to the aggression of the inmates. The story, which is currently evolving, dates back to this morning: some convicts targeted an area of the prison, destroying its furnishings and also attacking the officers. Two of them in particular were taken to hospital.
“The situation is very serious. We are receiving alarming signals from Benevento of growing tension with the common prisoners on the fourth floor: for trivial reasons, they have devastated the rotunda, computers, glass and everything that was there. At first glance it would appear that they took colleagues hostage, two were accompanied in hospital – the complaint Tiziana Guacci, secretary of the Sappe Penitentiary Police Autonomous Union, reported by the news agency AdnKronos – the situation is very critical and operators from other police forces are also present on site. It seems clear to me that there is a need for immediate interventions on the part of the ministerial and regional bodies of the prison administration, which ensure order and safety in prison in Benevento by protecting the prison police officers who serve there. And it is serious that the signals sent by Sappe regarding the constant and continuous outbreaks of tension in Campania prisons have not been collected over time”.
The autonomous prison police union therefore calls for immediate action intervention of the ministerial and regional authorities of the prison administration, to resolve a situation that has become dangerous and unsustainable.
