Reggio Calabria – They would not have intervened following a road accident, which occurred along the Taurianova ring road, during which a 52-year-old man died. The carabinieri of the provincial command of Reggio Calabria, coordinated by the Palmi prosecutor Emanuele Crescenti and the deputy Davide Lucisano, have notified a suspension from public offices for 10 months to two officers of the local police of Taurianova, investigated for omission of official acts. The facts date back to the morning of December 6, 2023. The victim, alone driving his car, had lost control of the vehicle due to an illness and had violently collided with a lamppost, a few meters from the edge of the road. Several witnesses had witnessed the independent accident and one of these, coming across the local police patrol made up of the two officers, had informed them of the incident. According to what emerged from the reconstruction carried out by the Carabinieri of Taurianova, by cross-referencing the testimonies of those present with the images of the video recordings of the cameras in the area and also examining the GPS track of the service car, it was highlighted that the two policemen would have gone to the scene but, once they arrived, they continued without activating the emergency services or making the road safe.
The omission, again according to what emerged from the investigations, led to a considerable delay in the intervention of the police, so much so that, only an hour later, following a call to 112, the police arrived on site. The investigating judge of Palmi Francesca Giovinazzo adopted the precautionary measure having not accepted the argument of the suspects according to which they would not have been able to identify the place of the accident when the company car passed by the GPS, as documented by the GPS. On the contrary, based on the evidence collected so far by the Palmi Prosecutor’s Office, the accidented car would have been clearly visible from both directions of travel.
