Less than a year after the success of Murder in Venice, Kenneth Branagh is set to direct a new feature film, as reported by Deadline.

The work, of which Branagh is also the screenwriter, will be titled The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. In the title role, the actress Jodie Comer, already winner of a BAFTA and an Emmy Award for her performance in Killing Eve. The plot of the film is still top secret, although the work is described as a “contemporary psychological thriller”. More details could be revealed later this summer, as production on The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde begins in August 2024 in the UK.

Belfast obtained 7 nominations at the 2022 Oscars (including those in the ‘best film’ and ‘best director’ categories), then winning the statuette for best original screenplay, written by Branagh himself. The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde is the first film written by Branagh after that great success: a reason that further increases the expectations for this new job. For the occasion, the Irish author will collaborate again with Tamar Thomas, Becca Kovacic and Laura Berwick, already producers from Belfast. They are joined by Matthew Jenkins and Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau for the film production company Maximum Effort.

In addition to starring in Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Branagh recently starred in Mayday with Ryan Reynolds, whose production has just ended. The actor’s return to the theater is also scheduled for 2024, with the production of King Lear on stage at The Shed in New York starting in October.
