After the great second place in Jerez Marc Marquez was interviewed in the company of Carlos Sainz for a promotional event for Audi Spain. The eight-time world champion spoke in a rather decisive manner about today’s MotoGP (“If the engineers are not stopped, they will continue to develop”), about the relationship with his brother and teammate Alex, about what he would like to hear: “I don’t they must have too much respect for me…”

It’s a Marc Marquez That Gigi Dall’Igna defined what he saw as a “rediscovered sample”. Jerez de la Frontera last weekend. Pole position on Saturday morning, a crash while leading the Sprint Race in the afternoon, a great second position on Sunday, after a battle with Pecco Bagnaia that will remain in the annals. A race so brilliant and in crescendo that Marc, in front of his people, celebrated it almost as if it were a victory. There are at least three elements that at the moment make #93 smile more than one might imagine: he seems to have a fair margin for improvement with the Desmosedici GP23 (in Austin he found a basic setting that allows him to fully express his style driving), harmony with the Team Gresini and with the new crew chief it only increases (here we talked about the party in the blue garage and the exchanges of opinions on technical matters between Marquez and Frankie Carchedi) and – above all – he is not at all far from the top of the standings, currently in the hands of Jorge Martin. Marc, despite three crashes in eight races, is sixth in the championship, just thirty-two points behind his compatriot. “Not bad considering our shitty start” – Marquez himself told his entourage, pleasantly surprised, amid general laughter in the Jerez parc fermé.

Noduring this week, just before Carlos Sainz left for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and wore a light blue tracksuit for the occasion (the shade is slightly different from the one Marquez wears with Gresini), Audi Spain held a promotional event bringing together these two rather influential and decidedly supported personalities (not only at home) by the two and four wheel public. 93, interviewed, spoke with great satisfaction about the first months spent in Team Gresini after eleven years of Hondaof the atmosphere that reigns in the Faenza garage, of what he would like to hear from his collaborators, of what he does not intend to grant to his brother – and teammate – Alex: “After eleven seasons in HRC it is not easy to break some vices out of your head and you have to go back to basics a bit with the guide, run back and try to understand what you need to go fast. I came here to Gresini to give my contribution, but obviously I want them to tell me when I’m wrong, not to avoid pointing out certain errors out of too much respect.. If, for example, I need to enter a corner faster or if I do something wrong, I want them to tell me. Today’s MotoGP? It’s very nice to ride with aerodynamics in MotoGP because the bike is faster, very stable, but from the fans’ point of view, not as much. Following a motorbike generates problems with tire heating, high pressures and you don’t brake in the same way. These are aspects that influence the show, but development continues. If you don’t stop them, engineers continue to look for solutions. The challenge with Alex as a teammate? In Qatar they marked me on the scoreboard that I had it by two tenths but he has to give his life to overtake me (laughs)“. Finally Marc returned to the most delicate moment of his career when, after the fracture of the humerus in Jerez 2020 and the subsequent ordeal of the four operations on his right arm, he also thought about retreat: “Yes, I thought about itbut every time I came back from an injury I wanted to ride a motorbike and I couldn’t imagine a life without a motorbike, without adrenaline.”
