There is nothing more painful for a club than seeing a former player reveal himself elsewhere after letting him leave for free. This is exactly what is happening at Salernitana with Milan Djuric. The Bosnian striker, fresh from an excellent season at Verona, is literally dragging Monza with his heavy goals.

It’s already at share of 8 goals in this championship, Djuric is demonstrating all his scoring value that Salernitana was unable to see and fully appreciate when he played with the granata shirt. An unforgivable mistake on the part of the Granata management who, despite the requests of the then DS Walter Sabatini, decided not to renew the Bosnian center forward’s expiring contract.

Sabatini’s words in the wind about Djuric

Sabatini had tried to convince President Iervolino to confirm it, but it was all in vain. Djuric eventually left as a free agent attracted by the contract offered by Verona, just 100,000 euros higher than the offer received from Salernitana. A laughable sum to let a striker of that caliber leave. A short-sighted choice desired by the new DS De Sanctis who preferred to focus on other profiles. Nevertheless Djuric had tried everything to stay in Salerno as can be deduced from what he declared when leaving Salerno: “My priority has always been to continue in Salerno as demonstrated on the pitch until the last second when I wore the grenade shirt, I have read a lot of false news in recent weeks including that I was taking time to decide but instead very simply things were they make two and when the visions of the present and the future are different it is inevitable to find another solution“.

Today Salernitana watches helplessly as Djuric’s revenge, probably Monza’s best signing this season. And if that wasn’t enough, the Verona can thank the granata: after taking him on a free transfer, the Venetians sold him to the Brianza team in the winter, collecting a large capital gain of 2 million euros plus another million in bonuses.

Yet another market harakiri which impoverished Salerno’s attack, which proved to be one of the main factors in Salernitana’s failed championship.

Djuric, Monz’s secret weaponto

Djuric proved to be Raffaele Palladino’s most important tactical weapon. His blocks and headers are often decisive in breaking the deadlock in the most complicated matches. It is no coincidence that 6 of his 8 goals came from headers, a house specialty for a powerful and physical striker like him.

The idol of the Brianza fans

In a very short time Djuric has become a true idol for Monza fans. His exploits on the pitch and his inexhaustible determination have made their way into the hearts of the red and white fans. So much so that many now acclaim him as “King Djuric” from the stands of Brianteo.

Yet another confirmation that in football you don’t become an expert overnight and that you must always rely on experts. It is useless to look for shortcuts with the choice of young managers, promising but still inexperienced for the delicate role to be played, or thinking of relying on “men of the world”. In these cases, bizarre choices, dictated by inexperience, almost always lead to disastrous consequences in the field.
