After the success of the last edition, on Saturday 18 May the Lametino Archaeological Museum proposes again the recreational-educational laboratory entitled “Archaeologists for a day” which will give a group of up to 20 children aged between six and ten the opportunity to try their hand at simulating an archaeological excavation. The workshop on Saturday 18 May will start at 4.30pm and will be organized by Dr. Marco Matarazzo and the assistant for the use, reception and supervision of the Roberta Scalzo Museum.

The Lametino Museum places museum education in its mission as a tool to revive the dialogue between society and the Museum, to make cultural heritage known to all generations, to include children, families, disabled people, immigrants, minorities and other social groups in the social fabric and to have citizens who respect the artistic and cultural heritage.

Through the educational tool of teaching, which is based on interaction, the concept of the Museum evolves from a place of conservation only, into an open place and a tool for bringing out unexpressed and latent cultural needs.

During the activity the archaeologist will explain to the young participants all the phases of the excavation: from the discovery and drawing of the archaeological finds, to the compilation of the US sheet and the matrix, up to the museum display. Boxes will be set up in which the stratigraphy of the archaeological excavation will be recreated in a simplified way and original finds recovered from the Museum’s deposits will be inserted inside them.
The children will then have to draw the find, fill in the US form and the matrix, like real archaeologists.

Participation in the laboratory “Archaeologists for a day” is free. Booking is open through the following two channels: telephone 3351732323 and e-mail: [email protected].
