Finale, a meeting to remember Gabriello Castellazzi on April 28th – Savonanews.it
Descriptive text here

A meeting dedicated to Gabriello Castellazzi will be held on Sunday 28 April at 5pm in the Sala Gallesio, in Via Pertica in Finale Ligure, one year after his death.

Relatives and friends have decided to remember him by retracing the stages of his cultural, social and political commitment through the truly impressive mass of his writings over a twenty-year period, from 2003 to 2023.

The result of this survey is a publication that collects Castellazzi’s most important articles on the issues that were closest to his heart: ecology, the environment, bioethics, land management in all its aspects (from urban planning choices to protection of the forests, at the Finale Park), renewable energy, and so on.

The publication will be offered as a gift to all those who attended, so that he may continue to live through his ideas and in the hope that something of his proposals can be achieved. Among the latter, one seems particularly beautiful to us: the construction of a solar power plant in the Cava Ghigliazza areas.

Here a legacy of the past which, seen from an aerial perspective, seems like a disturbing crater could be transformed into a piece of the tomorrow that we all hope for. The initiative is carried out with the collaboration of the Emanuele Celesia Friends of the Library and Museum of Finale Association of which Gabriello Castellazzi was a member.

Gabriello Castellazzi was born on 21 August 1944. He graduated as a Chemical Expert in 1964 and later graduated in Biological Sciences in 1968 and in Geography in 1971. For many years he taught high schools in Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, and was among the founders of the “Lega Ecologica Finarese” in 1972.

From 1973 to 1975 he launched numerous cultural initiatives as Superintendent of the Civic Library and also promoted numerous study initiatives on environmental themes. From 1975 to 1981 he held the position of Councilor for Public Education, Culture, Social Services, Health, Environment and Tourism of the Municipality of Finale Ligure.

From 1982 to 1985 as Councilor for Public Works, he took care of the environmental arrangement (gardens and car parks) in the former railway areas in Finalpia and Varigotti. He remained a city councilor until 1995.

From 1985 to 2000 he was Superintendent of the Finale Civic Library and, for ten years (1995-2005), he held the position of Treasurer of the Finale Section of the International Institute of Ligurian Studies which manages, on behalf of the Municipality of Finale Ligure, the Museum Archaeological of the Finale.

He was also a member of the “Solar Technology Group” of Savona, a founding member of the University of the Three Ages of Finale and a teacher for the “Territory and Green World” courses. President of the Finalese School District for over ten years, he organized various school orientation initiatives (student salons and school-work internships in the “Tourist-Environmental Guides” sector, etc.).

For many years an active member of environmentalist associations and movements (Legambiente – WWF – Green Federation) he also wrote the books: Cunta – True Stories of Finale. Facts and characters (2008), Ritorno a Finalborgo (2011) and Cino a Finalborgo (2014), dedicated to the city that he loved in a particular way and to its people. He left us on May 5, 2023.
