Death of Giuseppe Leone: April 19th will be city mourning. Flags at half-mast and all scheduled events suspended

On April 17, 2024, the master Giuseppe Leone passed away, a photojournalist and intellectual who left an indelible mark on the story of Sicily, its landscape and the rural world. Person of great culture and point of reference for the Hyblaean community, Leone was a friend and collaborator of important cultural figures such as Enzo Sellerio, Leonardo Sciascia, Vincenzo Consolo and Gesualdo Bufalino.

His shots, characterized by the sensitivity of black and white, have achieved recognition beyond national borders, thanks to successful exhibitions and publications that have contributed to spreading the beauty and culture of the Sicilian territory.

CITIZEN MOURNING

The municipal administration has decided to honor the memory of maestro Leone by participating in the funeral in a public and institutional form. Therefore, city mourning was proclaimed for April 19, 2024, from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm, during the funeral which will be held at the Cathedral of San Giovanni.

During the city’s mourning period, they will be all scheduled public events will be suspended and flags will be displayed at half-mast in municipal offices and public buildings. The city banner will be displayed during the funeral.

The municipal administration also invited schools, citizens, commercial activities, political, social and productive organizations and sports associations to participate in the city’s mourning and suspension of activities, as a sign of respect and contemplation during the funeral.
