Actuality

Yesterday morning, the Cine Teatro Ariston of Trapani, in the presence of 677 students of the high schools of Trapani and Erice, hosted the final event of the project “Memory Train”. This is a path promoted again this year by UDI Trapani, with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Erice, which aims not to disperse the memory of the barbarity of the Shoah and to commemorate all the victims of this tragic historical moment.

On the theater stage, the students (IPSEOA Florio”, “Sciascia and Bufalino” and “ITI L. Da Vinci” institutes) who started February with the Memory Train and have visited places such as the Auschwitz extermination camp and the Schindler Factory told the territory about the human experience they had the opportunity to live.

The institutional greeting was brought by Dr. Luciano Zanta Platamone representing the territorial Prefecture of Trapani, the mayor of Erice Daniela Toscano, the councilor Carmela Daidone. Also present were representatives of the ANPI section of Trapani.

«It was an intense and strong morning – they comment mayor Daniela Toscano and thecouncilor Carmela Daidone. The story of these young witnesses represents a reminder to our collective conscience and a warning against oblivion. Looking at the determined eyes of our kids we saw the reflection of a clear awareness of the barbarity of the Shoah; they were able to convey not only the weight of history, but also the hope and strength to build a better world.

We therefore wish to express our most sincere gratitude to them, as well as to all those who made this event possible, in particular the UDI club and the tireless president Valentina Colli who is the promoter of the Memory Train in our territory. At a time when the world is still grappling with the scourge of hatred and intolerance, this initiative, which the Municipality of Erice supported, reminds us that the light of knowledge and understanding of the errors of the past must always shine also thanks to the testimonies of our young people, so as to build a future of peace and tolerance.”
