Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza loses the first match in this round of the 5th Place Play Offs to Civitanova and also leaves the top of the standings. They finish in second place in the ranking and in the semi-final on Monday 22 April (8.30 pm) at PalabancaSport they will meet Civitanova again who finishes in third place in the ranking. The other semi-final will be between Verona first in the standings and Modena fourth. Just over an hour and a half of play was enough for Cucine Lube Civitanova to conquer PalabancaSport and obtain their third victory in this group. A Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza too fouled, not in its best evening and struggled a lot against the Cucineri in all the fundamentals. Having lost the first set, Piacenza found themselves ahead by five points in the second set (15-10 and 19-14) before the lights went out and the green light was given to their opponents. The fourth set was always led by Civitanova, only towards the end did Piacenza have the reaction to cancel three match balls for their opponents.
THE MATCH – At the start of the match coach Anastasi sends Brizard and Romanò onto the field diagonally, Ricci and Simon in the center, Lucarelli and Recine at the flank, Scanferla is the libero. On the other side of the net Cucine Lube Civitanova responds with De Cecco and Lagumdzija diagonally, Chinenyeze and Anzani in the centre, Zaytsev and Nikolov at the back, Balaso is the libero. The start is all Marche (1-5) with two consecutive aces at the start peppered with an attacking error by Romanò: time out by Anastasi. Upon returning to the field, a point from Lucarelli and a block from Recine (3-5), great defense from Romanò and a block from Brizard for the minus one (7-8) but it is Civitanova who restarts quickly, the block on Lucarelli’s attack brings the Marche with a five-point lead (7-12) with Anastasi calling the second time out. Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza struggles in reception but in general a bit in all the fundamentals, Leal inside for Romanò and at 11-20 Dias inside the control room for Brizard. Another block, third in the set, for Civitanova and it’s 13-23, the set point comes with Lagumdzija (13-24), Yant closes on the second occasion.
Ace by Romanò (6-3), Piacenza leads but Civitanova finds parity at seven and therefore the advantage following Lucarelli’s attacking error, it is still tied at 10 and then it is Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza that finds the lead with Lucarelli’s ace and Romanò’s block in (15-10) with the Marche bench calling the second time out available. At 19-14 Civitanova starts to nibble away at points, De Cecco’s ace is worth minus two (19-17), Romanò’s out attack is worth minus one (19-18), Lucarelli’s is equal. And it is still tied at 22 with two serving errors by Piacenza, the guests hitting hard from the nine meter line and creating problems for the red and white reception (22-23), the block on Recine’s attack brings two set points to the Marche players ( 22-24) which close with Lagumdzija’s ace.
Piacenza starts off well: 9-5 with Lucarelli’s ace, 12-8 with Romanò’s ace. The red and whites lead the set but at 14-10 Civitanova comes back (14-13) with Anastasi calling time out. When the game restarts, Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza starts again (16-13), a new ace from Lucarelli (18-14) and it is Civitanova who calls a time out, a block from Recine and they are five points ahead (21-16). Ace by Nikolov as soon as he entered the field (23-19), attack by Romanò blocked (23-20) with Anastasi calling the second time out, Nikolov’s serve on the net gives four set points to the red and whites (24-20), Andringa closes and is also kept on the field on the front lap. It’s tied at 3, Civitanova extends: error in attack by Recine, block suffered by the spiker himself and shortly afterwards ace from the Marche for the 5-9. A gap that widens (9-16), at Piacenza it is difficult to put the ball on the ground either because Civitanova defends a lot or because the home team’s play is not always precise and linear. The Marche team travels quickly (14-21), Romanò’s strike into the net delivers six match balls to Civitanova (18-24), Piacenza cancels three, and ends with Romanò’s out attack.
Andrea Anastasi: “It was a match played badly by us, the impact wasn’t the best but in general we played bad volleyball. Maybe already being sure of playing in the semi-final has relaxed some, with Civitanova you can also lose but not like we did.
