PESCARA. Luigi Albore Mascia, outgoing Forza Italia councilor and former mayor, announces that he will be a candidate with the future Pescara civic list. Albore Mascia speaks of “a completely personal and not political choice” but his decision comes while the party continues to discuss the entry of Marcello Antonellipresident of the city council, and of the councilor Maria Rita Carrot, both at odds with the League. Yesterday, a meeting of the Forza Italia supporters ended with another black smoke: no agreement was reached on Antonelli and Carota. We will talk about it again today when the deputy returns to Pescara Nazario Paganoregional coordinator of the party and president of the Finance commission, who was busy in Rome yesterday.
«It is a choice that allows me to remain in the moderate Forzista area», this is how Albore Mascia comments on the candidacy in future Pescara, a civic body founded by Masci, «I am and remain a member of Forza Italia and I remain in support of Forza Italia’s candidates in the European elections . This is”, continues the councilor for Public Works and Mobility, “a choice shared with the regional coordinator Pagano. After the primary role played in the outgoing administration, this decision aims to underline the closeness to the mayor Carlo Masci with a view to his re-election as leader of the city”. That Albore Mascia remains faithful to Forza Italia is also revealed by a detail: last Sunday he participated in the party lunch with the deputy prime minister and national leader of the Azzurri Antonio Tajani, arrived in Pescara for the Fratelli d’Italia programmatic conference and to present the Forzista candidates for the European elections. Albore Mascia had run for the Region on 10 March with Forza Italia, collecting 1,675 preferences in the city, second behind Sospiri (2,712 votes in the entire Pescara constituency); in 2019, the former mayor was Forza Italia’s most voted with 787 preferences.
Yesterday’s meeting, at the Forza Italia headquarters in via Carducci, was attended by Sospiri, Masci, the municipality’s council group with the councilors Claudio Croce, Alessio Di Pasquale, Fabrizio Rapposelli, Roberto Renzetti and the last one to enter Massimiliano Pignoli; the councilors were also present Eugenio Seccia, Isabella Del Trecco And Patrizia Martelli. Those present should all be candidates and would have given another negative opinion to the entry of Antonelli and Carota as a couple. Today’s meeting will examine a series of hypotheses: the most feasible involves the entry of only one of Antonelli and Carota while the other should run as a candidate with one of the civic bodies in support of Masci, future Pescara or unique Pescara. The Forza Italia base does not want to find itself crushed by the preferences of Antonelli and Carota, who have always been in tandem: in the last regional elections, candidate with the League, Antonelli had received 1,374 votes in the city (2,185 in the entire province). The historic group of Forza Italia is not going to end up behind any new entries, also because this time there are already three candidates on the list who, in 2019, took the field with other parties: Rapposelli ran with FdI, Pignoli with the UDC and Martelli with the League. This is why the negotiation remains uphill but today a window could open up to close the agreement. The leaders of Forza Italia want to shore up the party but without creating internal divisions. At stake are the balance of power within the centre-right: in the regional elections, in the city, Fratelli d’Italia had taken 15.55%, in addition to the 9.18% of the Marsilio list as president, while Forza Italia 13.19% and the League 10.07%.
