Liguria. New vehicle in the Liguria fire brigade fleet: it is a helicopter, a new AW 139 with registration numbers VF 157 delivered in the early afternoon of Tuesday to the Flight Department.

With this allocation, there are now two AW 139s in operational service in Liguria, thus guaranteeing, in addition to the institutional service, the helicopter rescue service in agreement with the Liguria Region.

The delivery of the new aircraft is in line with the corps’ objective at a national level: the progressive replacement of the AB 412s, in service for decades, so as to modernize the fleet of vehicles used to carry out daily rescue operations.

The AW 139 is a medium type helicopter (6 ton class), twin-turbine, equipped with a rigid five-bladed rotor, whose crew is normally made up of two pilots, an on-board technician, two helicopter rescuers or two divers as well as a doctor and nurses from the 118 service. The new aircraft is equipped with a wide range of equipment, such as recovery winch, barycentric hook, weather radar, which allow for greater speed and effectiveness of action.

Added to this are the anti-collision system, emergency floats, life rafts and an advanced autopilot, developed specifically to make it particularly effective in search operations for missing people and rescue operations both at sea and in the mountains, while ensuring a high standard higher safety during all operations.
