Basiliano (Udine) – Cobots increasingly collaborative, easy to use, and ergonomic: this is where design fits into the robotic world. Friulian Idea Prototipi has developed Master Key: an ergonomic knob capable of programming the use of the cobot.

Thanks to these machines, in practice, the revolution that has affected companies with personal computers is happening: from technological tools that are not very usable and specific for a single function, PCs have improved work in every aspect, for everyone.

He is convinced of it Massimo Agostini, CEO of Idea Prototipi which, with its latest cobots produced in the Basiliano factory, is aimed at every manufacturing sector: “Our machines are mobile tools, adaptable to the production of a medium-sized company as well as the artisan’s workshop. In designing we therefore considered the need to reduce entry costs, guaranteeing personalized functions and, naturally, maximum safety”.

The machines designed by Agostini, for example, have a knob, the Master Key, which allows workers to program and reprogram the cobot and instruct it easily: “It is totally user friendly and also stimulating: it can be managed by anyone, no neither physical strength nor specific skills”.

For this reason, there are already many women who work closely with Idea Prototipi’s cobots.
Agostini specifies that the safety side is always in the foreground: “The safety of the working environment is in the DNA of the cobots, which are designed to work with humans and, in the event of the slightest danger, stops”.

Once upon a time there was only the industrial robot locked in a cage, it was intended for large production lines and the risk of accidents when interacting with human workers was real.

The current trend, which will be increasingly dominant in the future, is the cobot, an ergonomic and versatile machine that works in an open environment, in close physical contact with the human being.

Among the few companies that have already made the production of collaborative robots a reality – this is the definition of cobot – there is Idea Prototipi, from Friuli, specialized for years in the design and creation of machines for Industry 5.0, equipped with artificial intelligence.

The evolution of robots is not just mechanical and IT.

Design matters more than ever. “Speaking of cobots, by design we mean both the aesthetic and functional part, therefore the simplicity of use and the inclusive structure, free of roughness and dangerous edges, and the ability to interact with human technicians”, specifies Simone Paternich, professor of Design at ISIA in Florence, the first public university-level institute dedicated to industrial design.

“Cobots – adds Paternich – represent the most evident effect of new technologies in manufacturing”. The key to collaboration between humans is cobot is an evolved interface that allows the machine to interact with logic and language similar to natural ones, i.e. human beings. “Therefore – concludes Simone Paternich – high skills are not needed.

Everything takes place in a comfortable working environment where the cobot has a reassuring appearance and continually learns to correct inaccuracies”, without barriers between ‘different’ colleagues.
