Request for access to the documents relating to the exclusion of Syracuse from the 6 million euros of funds allocated by the Council of Ministers as compensation for the damage caused by the fires of the 2023 fire season in Sicily.

It was put forward by the Syracuse Fire Prevention Committee.

“This – we read in the Committee’s note – despite the fact that our province has been devastated by fire and according to recent Ispra data, Syracuse is the fourth most burned province in Italy, with 4300 hectares of territory of which 23% is forest area.

The objective – continues the note – is to understand why the province of Syracuse was not included in the resolution (unlike Catania, Messina, Palermo and Trapani), precluding the possibility of having the necessary compensation for farms and families from Syracuse who they saw their businesses and homes go up in smoke in just a few minutes.

An emblematic case – he concludes – is that of Mrs Letizia who on 23 July 2023 saw her house in the Tremmilia area completely burned down and who today finds herself without a home and without any type of subsidies”.
