The fourth edition of the course ended in Presena “snow avalanche” of the Lombardy Regional Fire Brigade Directorate. The course was aimed at 15 units of Advanced and Basic Saf personnel and two Fire Brigade Officers, out of the 50 units selected. The final objective of the course was to train personnel prepared to operate in a snowy and icy winter environment.
The prolonged winter season allowed us to take full advantage of the particular conditions nivological of the glacier. The staff, equipped with clothing and equipment required by their specialization and environment, were able to fully carry out the program and training course.
Thanks to the agreements with the Italian Red Cross, Dr. Francesco Palese dealt with the health aspects related to hypothermia and the treatment of those struck by avalanches. Training in nivology and risk mitigation on snow-covered terrain was delegated to Doctor Ernesto Crescenzi and Doctor Fabiano Monti, while the lawyer Silvia Traini provided notes on snow legislation, while the technical training was entrusted to national experts from the Saf nucleus and to the mountain guides present in the national fire brigade.
In these days, a further step has been added to the concrete implementation of the collaboration agreement signed in 2020 between the Department of Fire Brigade, Public Rescue and Civil Defense and the General Command of the Guardia di Finanza, which has the purpose to optimize and strengthen collaboration between the two Administrations, in the interest of the community.
The collaboration of the two operational parts SAGF and SAF has refined the synergy between the parties and improved their respective operational and professional capabilities, to make actions to safeguard human life as effective and efficient as possible. The exchange of mutual experiences facilitated the sharing of best operational practices.
