1910 – Boston Arena (now Matthews Arena), the first indoor ice hockey stadium still used in sports today, opens to the public.
1914 – Aeschylus’s Agamemnon makes his debut in Syracuse. It is the first edition of the classical performances at the Greek theater organized by the National Institute of Ancient Drama
1917 – Vladimir Lenin returns to Petrograd from exile to prepare for the October Revolution.
1919 – India: Gandhi organizes a day of prayer and abstention from work after the Amritsar massacre committed three days earlier.
1938 – Signing of the Easter Agreements between Great Britain and Italy which confirmed the Gentlemen’s agreement of 1937, resolved the differences in the Middle Eastern policies of the two countries and guaranteed free availability for transit in Lake Tana and the Suez Canal.
1941 – Second World War, battle of the Tarigo convoy: in Tunisia an Italian naval convoy, the Duisburg, bound for Libya, is attacked by an English naval team at 02:20 in the morning. No Italian ship was saved, the Italian destroyers Lampo, Luca Tarigo, Baleno and the English destroyer HMS Mohawk (F31) with four English transport ships also sunk.
1943 – Albert Hofmann discovers the hallucinogenic effects of LSD (Lisergid acetyl-diethylamide or lysergic acid).
1947 – Bernard Baruch coins the term “cold war” to indicate diplomatic relations between the United States and the Soviet Union.
1964 – At EMI Studios in London the Beatles recorded A Hard Day’s Night, one of their first hugely successful singles.
1971 – The Rolling Stones release the single Brown Sugar in Great Britain which in a few weeks reaches the top of the national and international music charts.
1973 – Primavalle fire: Rome, a Potere Operaio group made up of Manlio Grillo, Marino Clavo and Achille Lollo sets fire to a house in the Primavalle district, killing the brothers Virgilio and Stefano Mattei, sons of the secretary of the local section of the Italian Social Movement Mario Mattei.
1977 – The Apple II is introduced to the public at the first West Coast Computer Faire.
1988 – Forlì, the Christian Democrat senator and expert in institutional reforms Roberto Ruffilli is killed, in his own home, by the Red Brigades, on the tenth anniversary of the assassination of Aldo Moro.
1995 – Pakistan, thirteen-year-old textile trade unionist Iqbal Masih is assassinated.
2003 – Athens/European Union: twenty-five countries sign the Treaty of Athens which provides for the enlargement of the European Union.
2013 – Nigeria. a massacre begins in Baga at the hands of the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram, which will cause at least 200 civilian deaths and the destruction of numerous houses.
