Land lives of Abby and Brittany Hensel, conjoined twins who captivated the world with their story, took a romantic turn that transformed their duo into an enchanting trio. In 2021, Abby, the left twin, pronounced the his “yes” to Joshua Bowling, nurse and U.S. Army veteran, in a ceremony that long remained secret. The happy event was discovered by Today Show of NBC, which came into possession of some documents confirming the wedding.

News that has rekindled a spotlight on an apparently forgotten story. Originally from Minnesota, Abby and Brittany, now 34, have always tried to keep their lives private, despite having achieved television popularity first thanks to Oprah Winfrey and then, in 2012, with the Reality show of TLC Abby & Brittany. From that moment on, in fact, they chose not to appear on TV anymore. Their condition is particular to say the least. The two are dicephalic parapagus conjoined twins.

What does it mean? In essence, they are joined laterally and have two heads attached to what, for all intents and purposes, is a single body. Abby and Brittany share a liver, bladder and large intestine. They also have two breasts, a single circulatory system with two distinct hearts, two vertebral columns with respective spinal cords, two stomachs, four lungs and a single reproductive system.

Born in March 1990, Abby and Brittany’s parents decided to do not attempt delicate surgery to separate them. The risk that one of the two wouldn’t make it was too high. It is equally true that the possibility to see them grow together they truly were low. But the twins made it, helped in part by surgery, which corrected their scoliosis and widened their pleural cavities. A condition that allowed them to live a “normal” existence, as much as possible: second Today Showboth are elementary school teachers. And some testimonies of Abby’s wedding with Joshua Bowling can be found on social media: from the recent videos published by the twins on TikTok, to the dance after the wedding posted by the groom’s mother.

A desire for normality traceable in various interviews from the past. Abby and Brittany Hensel have never hidden the desire to become mothers, one day. In a documentary filmed when the girls were teenagers, their mother said: “It’s probably something that could work because the organs work.” At the moment, however, It is not known whether this dream is achievable and in what ways.
