Moments of tension, today in Naples, in Mergellina during the initiative promoted by the deputy of the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra Francesco Emilio Borrelli who this morning laid a wreath of flowers in memory of Francesco Pio Maimone, the young pizza chef accidentally killed by a gunshot following an argument that broke out over a pair of sneakers to which he was absolutely unrelated. During the initiative outside the Agostino chaletthe place where the murder took place, according to what Borrelli himself announced, «some relatives of the key witness, who worked at the chalet that evening and retracted his version in court and was indicted by the judge for reticence, approached the deputy, insulting him heavily and threatening him with death.”
«When faced with the arrogance and violence of the Camorra, one must not turn one’s face but must take the right side. This is why we came to Mergellina to lay flowers and to ask for justice for Francesco Pio Maimone, right in the place where he was killed – explains Borrelli – We did it in the aftermath of the cowardly retraction of the key testimony that could nail the murderer by a worker from the Agostino chalet who witnessed the tragedy and who was thus indicted by the judge. On the one hand we need strong signals against those who connive and protect the Camorra, on the other we must make the closeness of the institutions and the city felt to the family of Francesco Pio Maimone”.
Borrelli’s complaint
«For years in Mergellina there has been a system of widespread illegality which constitutes fertile ground for serious crimes – added Borrelli – and the Agostino chalet itself is illuminating proof of this: a structure welded to the handrail of the seafront with probably illegal occupation of flower boxes, loud music high volume until the morning with frequent attendance, as admitted today by the witness’s relatives, by criminals. These places must be closed, as happened with the place in Piazza Municipio outside which Giovanbattista Cutolo was killed.”
