He was one of the last diehards of the Casalese Camorra, custodian of important secrets, but after 26 years in prison, most spent under the hard prison regime, Francesco Schiavone, known as Sandokanundisputed leader of the Casalesi clan, decided to collaborate with justice. This was reported by the paper edition of the newspaper “Cronache di Caserta”. In recent days the police, as far as we know, went to Casal di Principe to propose to the clan leader’s relatives, including his son Ivahnoe, to enter the protection program, confirming Sandokan’s willingness to collaborate with the DDA of Naples. Schiavone follows the path already taken by his sons Nicola (in prison since 2010, repentant since 2018) and Walter (collaborator of justice since 2021). The boss has been suffering from cancer for a few years and was recently transferred to the L’Aquila prison. He is the second Casalesi clan leader to repent after Antonio Iovine known as ‘o ninno, who began speaking to the judges in 2014.

Schiavone is 70 years old today. Together with Francesco Bidognetti he founded the Casalesi clan and leader of the Neapolitan and Caserta Camorra. He was arrested on 11 July 1998 in his bunker in Casal di Principe. Only two months ago the boss requested the abbreviated trial in the trial which sees him accused of three murders, that of: Luigi Diana, Nicola Diana and Luigi Cantiello. This is the first abbreviated rite in the judicial history of “Sandokan”, with well-known very long spent in courtrooms screaming his innocence. And it was Francesco Schiavone himself who requested it, asking to speak via video link with the Napo courtroom

The mayor of Casal di Principe, Renato Natale

“I am happy about it and I hope that it can shed light on a dark period in our history, but also help us identify those still hidden corners that could represent a future danger for our people, for our economy and our institutions”
