Albenga, urgent interventions to free the dock from sand

In Albenga, work began immediately after Easter to free the dock from the sand that accumulated there following the strong sea storms that occurred during the winter, sand that makes it impossible for the Lega Navale, Circolo Nautico and Liguria Pesca boats to leave.

The state property councilor states Mauro Vannucci: “I have personally and constantly observed the phenomenon of storm surges which have moved large quantities of material, determining the progressive silting up of the dock. Thanks to the collaboration of the state property office and the technical office, we met the dealers on several occasions and initiated the procedures necessary to intervene. Given the emergency situation, we will carry out as soon as possible, with the support of a specialized company, the movement and leveling of the material present, all within the same area that will allow the boats to be able to access the sea”.

The mayor specifies Riccardo Tomatis: “In recent weeks we have met the owners of state concessions and carried out several inspections to assess the situation of the dock which, due to the storms in the winter, was covered up in sand. We therefore decided to intervene urgently, bringing forward a part of the work already foreseen in the seasonal nourishment project. Substantially part of the sand will be moved within the same cell (or area) to guarantee access to the sea for boats. At a later stage, this material may possibly be moved and used for the nourishment of the requesting concessionaires”.
