Forty-five people died in South Africa after the bus they were traveling on lost control, crashing through a barrier and falling into a ravine, before catching fire in the province of Limpopo, in the north-east of the country.

The passengers were traveling from Gaborone, Botswana, on a pilgrimage to attend an Easter ceremony in the Polokwane area of ​​South Africa.

South African Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga went to the site of the accident and extended her condolences to the affected families: “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We continue to urge responsible driving at all times with increased care as more and more people are on our roads this Easter weekend“.

The minister added that the government will repatriate the bodies and that only an eight-year-old girl survived the accident, who was injured and airlifted to hospital.
