FUCECCHIO. He lost his life in a terrible head-on collision along provincial road 15 Romana Lucchese, near Le Vedute. With his Opel Meriva this afternoon at 4.30pm he crashed into a black Mercedes van and the impact left him no escape, killing him instantly. The victim of the tragic accident is Mustapha El Wardi, 48 year old worker of Moroccan origin, who lived in Altopascio and who worked at Avr, the company that also takes care of the maintenance of the Fi-Pi-Li highway.

According to an initial reconstruction being examined by investigators, his car – in which he was proceeding towards Altopascio – ended up against a black van which was instead going towards Fucecchio: the car behind that van was also involved in the impact of El Wardi; Another person was injured in the crash and was taken to the emergency room in Empoli under code yellow, while a third person escaped unharmed.

Unfortunately, the rescue efforts of the healthcare personnel who arrived on site were of no avail, given that the 118 doctor was unable to do anything other than confirm his death.

The firefighters had the task of freeing his body from the sheet metal: the victim’s car was completely destroyed on the front side, a sign that the crash was terrible.

Also on site were the municipal police officers of the Union of Empolese Valdelsa Municipalities, who were responsible for collecting the testimonies of those who witnessed the crash and carrying out all the necessary findings to then reconstruct the dynamics of the head-on collision.

And given that the Romana Lucchese leads to the motorway entrance in Altopascio, the closure of the road for the investigations, the recovery of the body and the subsequent cleaning of the roadway meant that a long queue was formed with dozens of trucks and heavy vehicles.

The Romana Lucchese provincial road is one of the busiest arteries in the Fucecchio area and in the entire district, as well as one of those where the most serious and fatal accidents are recorded.

The worker who was responsible for routine maintenance and road maintenance, building site installation, covering potholes and cutting grass was returning home after a day’s work.

The magistrate on duty ordered the body to be transferred to forensic medicine while waiting to decide whether to order an autopsy.
