Six years after the tragic death of the two colleagues serving at the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade of Catania, the Office for Sports Activities of the Regional Directorate of the Fire Brigade for Sicily, upon invitation and in collaboration with the Provincial Command of Etna, organized the 5th Memorial Regional Fire Brigade “7-a-side” Championship, dedicating it to the memory of Dario and Giorgio.
The Regional Director, Eng. Gaetano Vallefuoco, and the Provincial Commander of the Catania Fire Brigade, Eng. Salvatore Tafaro, gave full support to the initiative by appointing the Sports Gymnastics Director, Dr. Antonio Occhipinti and the firefighter coordinator Santo Re, to organize the sporting event.
Today, March 27, in the presence of the relatives of Dario Ambiamonte and Giorgio Grammatico, over 130 firefighters representing the nine provincial commands of Sicily challenged each other on the pitch in the name of fair play and that spirit of aggregation which, has always distinguished every firefighter, with the aim of honoring the memory of the two young colleagues.
The preliminary group stage took place in the morning, determining the relative placings of merit.
Subsequently, in the early afternoon, the matches of the final phases began which led to a very balanced and sportingly fought final between the Enna Command and that of Palermo.
The exciting match ended in a draw.
The penalty kicks therefore decreed the Palermo firefighters regional champions for 2024, prevailing over the Enna team with the result of 6 to 5.
