Starting from the summer of 2024, the plant’s annual peak production will exceed one billion cubic meters, equal to almost 40% of the national requirement

The construction of the 4 underwater wells and the natural gas treatment plant as part of the development of the Argo Cassiopea deposits is nearing completion.

Yesterday Enimed and Saipem took stock of the progress of the work on board the Saipem 10000, the ship that is carrying out the drilling phases of the 4 underwater wells from which the gas will be extracted and subsequently sent to the treatment plant which is nearing completion within the Gela Biorefinery area.

The cornerstone project of the 2014 Memorandum of Understanding will be fully implemented and put into production as early as the summer of 2024. The natural gas extracted and subsequently treated will then be injected into the national consumption distribution network. Reserves are estimated at approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas and peak annual production will exceed one billion cubic meters.

The start-up of the plant will allow the territory to receive the extraction royalties, thanks to the new regulations recently approved by the Ars on off-shore extractions.
