A strong earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, was felt yesterday evening, Wednesday 27 March 2024, in Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia. Many reports arrived at the Civil Protection and fire brigade switchboards. The earthquake was felt throughout the region and also crossed national borders.

In these hours, theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) updated the data relating to the earthquake that occurred at 10.19pm yesterday in Friuli Venezia Giulia. In fact, initially, the data provided indicated a magnitude of 4.5. The earthquake, however, according to updated data, had a magnitude of 4.1, with a hypocenter 10 kilometers deep and an epicenter 5 kilometers from the municipalities of Socchieve (Udine) and Tramonti di Sopra (Pordenone).

Immediately after the shock they followed at least six more mild tremorsthe strongest of which had a magnitude of 2.3 and occurred at 10.45pm yesterday.

The earthquake which occurred on 27 March 2024 was felt indiscriminately throughout the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, from Pordenone to Udine, up to Trieste. The shock was also felt in the neighboring regions: reports also came from the regions of Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige.

The earthquake crossed national borders: several reports were in fact received in Austria and Slovenia. In general, the fire brigade switchboards received many telephone calls reporting that they had felt the earthquake very strongly.

According to the Civil Protection: The shock was felt by the population but initial checks did not reveal any damage to people or things. At Rainews24 Coriglio Zannier, mayor of Socchieve declared: “TOWe heard a tremendous bang and we were so scared, then it happened no light for a few minutes“. Regarding the damage caused by the earthquake, the mayor reassures: “there was some tiles falling, but now we are returning to normality“.
