In an era in which environmental awareness seems to be at the center of collective attention, Turin once again finds itself dealing with a problem that seems to have no solution: the indiscriminate abandonment of waste in the streets of the city. Cristina, our reader and Reporter Friendbrings to light with eloquent photographs the situation of degradation that afflicts via Umberto Giordano, on the corner with Piazza Respighi, in the Barriera area of Milan.
“We scrupulously carry out separate waste collection, and yet every morning we find ourselves faced with this desolate scenario,” says Cristina. The images speak clearly: dozens of rags, clothes, waste paper, not only next to the rubbish bins but also scattered along the pavement. A sight which, in addition to breaking every rule of civility and environmental respect, disfigures the beauty of the city.
It is suspected that the main cause of this degradation is the activity of some people who, rummaging through waste, end up scattering it along the road. A plausible hypothesis, given that similar episodes have already occurred in the past.
Cristina’s appeal, however, goes beyond a simple complaint. It’s a cry for help, an invitation to the municipal administration to take concrete measures to resolve the problem once and for all. The residents of via Umberto Giordano, like many other citizens of Turin, are tired of living in conditions of degradation that not only compromise their quality of life but also the image of the city itself. Awaiting a response from the authorities, he remains therein the hope that reports like this can trigger positive change.
