The waste transshipment area of Calvi dell’Umbria has been inaugurated

The waste transshipment area of Calvi dell’Umbria was inaugurated this morning, in which important extraordinary maintenance works were carried out. Participating in the ribbon cutting were the managing director of Asm Tiziana Buonfiglio, the mayor of Calvi in Umbria Guido Grillini, the vice mayor Sandro Spaccasassi, the head of environmental services of Asm Leonardo Carloni, Stefano Teofrasti (president) and Mario Eugeni of Ambiente e Lavoro cooperative, the owners of the companies that carried out the work (Conti e Dati) and some children from the Calvi dell’Umbria nursery school.

The Calvi transhipment area, which made it possible to rationalize transport, reduce costs and allow greater flexibility in collection, had limitations relating to access and use. The arrangement and restoration works carried out such as the cementing, the gate, the fence and the expansion of the storage area will allow an improvement in the collection activity of this area belonging to the Municipality, further extending the number of waste that can be collected and the flexibility of collection and transport.

“I want to thank the mayor, all the municipal administration and the staff that supports them – said the managing director of ASM Tiziana Buonfiglio – for having been able to transfer the culture of the environment to the citizens in such a significant way, starting from the youngest who are here to testify to this. It is no coincidence that Calvi dell’Umbria is the first municipality in Umbria for separate waste collection, reaching a percentage of over 90 percent. And it is first in Italy for per capita production of residual waste per inhabitant (with 41 kg/year). In addition to celebrating this important transhipment area, I would like to congratulate the Municipality of Calvi dell’Umbria”.

“I thank the ASM – said Mayor Guido Grillini – for its commitment and collaboration. We started years ago with a widespread awareness-raising activity in all homes, carried out in a masterly manner, to educate the population on separate waste collection. The citizens immediately collaborated, allowing us to arrive at today’s percentages. We owe the success achieved not only to the virtuosity of the citizens, but also thanks to the synergy with Asm and the Ambiente e Lavoro cooperative. The transhipment area is a flagship and I hope that it will be completed with structures and technologies that can bring improvements from the point of view of waste separation. I hope that the idea of creating our own CCR can become a reality that would be able to improve separate waste collection”.

There was also great satisfaction from the deputy mayor Sandro Spaccasassi and the manager Leonardo Carloni, who underlined the importance of the transhipment area and the results achieved with separate waste collection.

The maintenance works are part of a broader renovation of the area designed by the Municipality, which ASM shared. This general framework is joined by the project for the tourist demountable islands, financed by the approved project of the Pnrr. Two demountable islands are planned by the end of the year, available to tourists and non-residents, within the municipality of Calvi in the Santa Maria in Neve area and in Via Pinetina. All this will lead to greater tourist and environmental enjoyment of the Municipality, with a decrease in waste abandonment.
