During the night between Monday and Tuesday, the State Police arrested a 34-year-old Romanian citizen accused of a crime aggravated car theft. The man already known to the police force was stopped after a chase by the officers of the Judicial Police Team of the Rifredi police station.

Police Commissioner Maurizio Auriemma wanted to give an impetus to the State Police’s activity to combat the “split” phenomenon in commercial establishments in Florence and beyond, also deploying police officers from the city’s police stations.

Around 1am on Tuesday, the unmarked cars of the police station Rifredi they focused their attention on San Piero a Pontiwhere they caught a man struggling, in this case, with a half parked on the street.

For a few days the officers had been keeping an eye on a car which, based on some findings, on May 3rd would have gravitated close to a bar in via di Villa Demidoff, whose showcase would literally be beaten with an objectprobably compatible with a crowbar, then raiding the club’s cash register.

The same car would then have been spotted yesterday in San Piero a Ponti, where the man who would have had the availability, after sending the window of a van shattered, he allegedly took a briefcase from the passenger compartment which later turned out to contain work tools.

The theft would have taken place in a few moments, so much so that the alleged perpetrator, with the stolen goods in tow, would have quickly boarded the suspect car, moving away from the scene of the crime. The policemen never lost sight of him, giving the go-ahead to a Chase.

After taking Via Valdichiana at high speed against traffic, he cornered the fugitive abandoned the vehicle in via Baracca and continued his run on foot. Finally, he also attempted to climb a wall but the officers left him no escape: once grabbed, he reacted by kicking, pushing and elbowing his pursuers. Two officers were injured and ended up in hospital from where they were subsequently discharged with a few days of prognosis: one also reported a microfracture to the nose.

The investigators got to the bottom of the matter, managing to recover, in addition to the toolbox stolen shortly before from the van, a series of tools suitable for burglary And several things which cannot be ruled out could be the spoils of at least one other robbery which occurred previously in a condominium garage on the outskirts of Florence: 13 bottles of alcohol, including wine, prosecco and sparkling wine.

In the house a Novoli the police have instead of the suspect a tablet and hydraulic equipment of suspected stolen origin were seized. Among the things found during the investigative activity, Rifredi’s officers also recovered two so-called “crowbars”.

Further investigations are underway, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Florence, to verify his possible responsibilities regarding the split that occurred last May 3 at the Novoli bar.
