Waiting for the Frecce tricolori, the Air Force is an honorary citizen of Trani. Just under two months after the performance of the aerobatic team in the sky of the city, scheduled for May 12th, the city council has unanimously approved the proposal to confer honorary citizenship on this armed force, in the wake of other similar decisions with other illustrious legal personalities-
This is the formal motivation: «With very high military value and considerable civil commitment, the Air Force, engaged in international civil missions and bringing aid to populations in need of intervention, has marked the epic of flight in Italy and in the world and is inextricably linked to the city of Trani through the deeds of its illustrious aviators”.
In fact, this recognition, and consequently the presence of the Frecce tricolori in the city, are linked to the celebrations for the scrolling of the plaque entitled First Class Marshal Pietro Lettini, silver medal for aeronautical valor, and in conjunction with the anniversary of the air cruise of tenth anniversary, in which the Trani flyer took part in 1933.
The recognition of honorary citizenship by the city council will be followed by the official conferral of the same on the occasion of the acrobatic team show in Trani, but it must also be said that among the collateral initiatives another very significant one stands out.
The reference is to the imminent placement, in the municipal villa, of the vertical drift of an AMX aircraft, decommissioned and sold, available at the 32nd wing of Amendola, in the province of Foggia. The General Staff has willingly granted a favorable opinion on the sale to the Municipality of Trani of a significant part of the out-of-use aircraft, which will thus be positioned in a monumental area of the public gardens to be dedicated to the Air Force, as has already happened before with the Army and then with the Navy.
In more detail, the area has been identified between the sound box and the war memorial, and the drift will be accompanied by a plaque with the following words: «To the fallen and heroes of the Air Force».
