Mattia Faraoni beats Hurduc with a thrill and remains kickboxing world champion

The ring returned to the center of the Palazzetto dello Sport, a historic facility in the Capital, after six years. The public responded in a big way and above all there was no shortage of emotions. In particular, the main event of the kickboxing evening “Oktagon Tsunami” kept everyone in suspense, between the world champion Iska in the 95 kg category Mattia Faraoni and Romanian Danut ‘happy killer’ Hurduc. A match of great intensity, very tough, at times unfair, which the Roman (histrionic as always and who entered the ring wearing Totti’s shirt) he won on points with a unanimous decision.

A breathless match, right from the very first stages, during which Hurduc took Faraoni to the ground (in an unfair way), who injured his right leg in the fall. There was the risk that the Roman would not be able to continue (“but I held out for the people who came here, I don’t like winning by disqualification,” he said), while Hurduc was penalized one point. However, after a long consultation with the medical staff, Faraoni decided to continue, ending the 1st round on the attack.

Another thrill in the second round: Faraoni went down due to a right hook from the Romanian (who does very pugilistic kickboxing). In the following three rounds, Faraoni’s choice: to constantly go on the attack, despite the fact that he was unable to use his legs 100% (always his strong point) due to the injury suffered at the beginning of the match. And the choice proved to be the right one, given that Hurduc’s excessively defensive tactics were not rewarded by the judges.

The twists continued even afterwards. The Portuguese Bruno Suzano, who, previously, had won, always in the heavyweight category (in the Co-Main event), against the Italian Yuri Farcas (by technical KO in the first round), in fact officially challenges Faraoni for the ISKA belt, but it is not excluded that there could be a possible re-match against the same Danut Hurduc. Speaking of the latter, he did not appreciate the verdict, letting himself go in unpleasant attitudes.
