Garmin Edge 1050: new display, new shape, increasingly smart

The new Garmin Edge 1050 is a major change of direction compared to the previous and still valid Edge 1040.
Starting with the display which no longer integrates Solar technology but features brighter colors and a look that winks at that of a smartphone.

The external structure also has a new shape and the same goes for the start/stop and lap buttons, now oriented towards the outside for better ergonomics of use on the handlebars of modern road and MTB bikes.

Garmin Edge 1050: the main news

There are so many improvements and changes and for this reason the 1050 cannot be considered a simple restyling of the 1040:

  • Battery life up to 20 hours (60 hours with energy saving mode)
  • road obstacle warnings reported by other cyclists (requires Garmin Connect app)
  • Advanced group ride with your race companions

The weight of the device is 161 gr and the external dimensions are 60.2 x 118.5 x 16.3 mm and compared to the 133 g of the Edge 1040 and dimensions of 59.3 x 117.6 x 20 mm.
The size of the display does not change (88.9 mm diagonal), but the resolution increases, going from 282×470 pixels to 480×800 pixels.

Garmin Edge 1050: How much does it cost?

The price is for a high-end device: €749.99 for the device only and €849.99 for the bundle version that includes heart rate monitor and Garmin speed sensor.
Currently on the Garmin website the times indicated for availability are 5-8 weeks in both cases.

Garmin Edge 1050 is compatible with the Varia series of cycling and smart lights, as well as inReach satellite communicators. For pedaling all year round, Edge 1050 also easily pairs with Tacx indoor smart trainers.
