Astro Bot it is a series that was practically born to exploit PlayStation peripherals, so it is not surprising that the new chapter is also destined to use the DualSense to “new levels”as reported by Team Asobi.

In fact, the series in question was created to best showcase the use of some specific features of the PlayStation hardware: the first chapter, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, remains perhaps one of the best titles for PlayStation VR while Astro’s Playroom , included for free in all PS5s, serves precisely to demonstrate the potential of the DualSense controller.

Although the new Astro Bot is configured, for the first time, as a real stand-alone game, built in a traditional way, it is not surprising that the developers have still thought of advanced implementations of the features of the PS5 controller.

Gaming situations specifically designed to take advantage of DualSense

During a recent interview published by IGN, the head of Team Asobi, Nicolas Doucetreported that Astro Bot focuses more on level design as a platformer, but there will be room for various digressions.

In gameplay, however, the DualSense controller will be exploited to “new levels”.

Doucet explained that, in certain cases, some parts of the levels and game situations are constructed like fates technical demos focused on the use of controller features, but placed within a more traditional platformer context.

For example, the interview describes the sequence in which Astro absorbs water to become bigger and then releases it as a sort of sponge. This is controlled by the player through the use of adaptive triggers, giving a particularly realistic sensation reminiscent of wringing a sponge to let water out.

This is just one example, but within Astro Bot there should be numerous similar sections, which derive from separate experiments done by Team Asobi on the possibilities of interaction in the game and on the use of the DualSense.
