Americans still believe one of the most serious lies about vaccines

Decades seem to have passed, but in truth only a few years have passed since the great debate on vaccines that was generated by the pandemic condition that had involved the major Western countries.

As absurd as it may seem that some still exist niches of our society who consider these drugs to be bad, regardless of the empirical evidence of safety – with the exception of a few cases, which have rightly been highlighted by experts and European cohorts -, a new survey has however confirmed a worrying fact.

24% of the US adult population still believes that vaccines can cause autism to developwhile 3% are not entirely sure, but tend to believe it.

This survey was conducted on 1,522 people byAnnenberg Public Policy Center from the University of Pennsylvania, one of the main US universities that constantly monitors concerns and false beliefs related to vaccination.

During the pandemic, social networks and operating systems like Google had attempted to stem this fake news, through initiatives designed to censor the most absurd lies and better disclose the scientific processes that led to the invention and distribution of vaccines. With the collapse of vaccinations due to the end of the pandemic, however the old beliefs have returned to circulate on social media, causing serious health damage to the most vulnerable populations.

“The persistent false belief that vaccines cause autism in children continues to be problematic, especially in light of the recent increase in measles cases nationwide.”he has declared Kathleen Hall Jamiesondirector of the Annenberg Public Policy Center.

To further fight against fake news, doctors hope that government agencies together with private ones will coordinate deny the most serious accusations, instead supporting those families (especially disadvantaged ones) who wish to vaccinate their children.
