A few days ago, on these pages we explained how long the Windows 11 license lasts. Today, we will answer the question that many ask: Can you use Windows without an active license?
In this case, we refer to the responses that the Microsoft community gave to some users who asked for clarification on the matter by referring to Windows 10, the operating system which, as we know, will no longer be supported by Microsoft from 14 October 2025. The Redmond giant recently informed users of this news.
In the documentation, Microsoft explains that if you do not activate the Windows license the operating system will not be able to download security updates, which as we know are crucial for keeping the PC safe from external threats and attempted hacker attacks. This aspect is fundamental as over time cyber criminals have become increasingly skilled at stealing information on users’ PCs and freezing data with ransomware that demands a ransom. Furthermore, failure to activate the Windows license could also bring with it limitations in terms of customization of the OS, as well as blocking some features.
The advice, therefore, is to update your PC to Windows 11 and then proceed with its activation.
