According to the latest rumors, i models of the iPhone 16 Pro series could be equipped with an innovative coating for the camera lensesknown as ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition). This feature could definitively solve one of the main defects of iPhone cameras.
The new technique would, in fact, make it possible to deposit an extremely thin layer, just a few nanometres, of a particular element on the surface of the lens, covering it uniformly. The news was reported by Yeux1122 on Naver and has never been discussed publicly by Apple, so it is not certain that we will find it on the new products that we should see by the end of the year.

The new coating will be designed to address phenomena that generate artifacts when composing and taking photographs, such as lens flare or the ghosting. In both cases, iPhones tend to generate shots containing unwanted elements. These issues can compromise the overall quality of captured images, with the ALD coating aiming to address these issues by reducing the refractive index of the lens surface and minimizing unwanted reflections on the final images.
The new technique can be exploited also to protect your camera lens from accidental damagewithout affecting the ability to collect light optimally.
The implementation of the new technology is foreseen only for the Pro models of the iPhone 16 series, representing one of the elements of differentiation between the two more expensive models compared to the basic ones. In the past the company has shown that it is willing to maintain some exclusive features for the Pro models, such as the titanium frame and Dynamic Island. The new coating should improve the quality of the iPhone’s imaging compartment, which could also benefit from further innovations such as the Capture button which has been discussed several times by numerous rumors.
