Juventus is taking advantage of the summer break to better explain to the Bianconeri fans how the Club World Cup will work, which will see Thiago Motta’s men involved in the USA next summer to represent Italy, together with Inter, in the tournament: “
Next season, among the many new features on the calendar, there will also be the first edition of the new format of the Club World Cup – which will take place every four years, just like the World Cups played by the national teams. A different format, which sees 32 teams participating – initially divided into eight groups of four teams playing in a single-game round-robin format. The top two teams in each group will advance to the round of 16, with the direct elimination phase being a single match, from the round of 16 to the final.
A real tournament, of which we are going to find out which teams will take part in the competition to which Juventus managed to gain access – which will start on 15 June 2025 (and end on 13 July) in the United States United.
HOW TO QUALIFY FOR THE CLUB WORLD CUP
The division of teams that have access to the competition is linked first of all to a scan on a continental basis (in which Europe, Asia, America etc. have a pre-established number of participating teams), and then to establish parameters relating to the ranking to lead to the actual choice of clubs that take part in the tournament.
12 teams qualify for Europe, i.e. the last four who won the Champions League plus another eight based on their progress in the Champions League in the last four seasons. In addition to these there are six teams that come from South America; Asia, Africa and Central and North America have 4 places. Finally, one place is reserved for Oceania and one by right for the host country.
HOW THE UEFA RANKING IS CALCULATED
The coefficient of a club in the UEFA ranking – which is decisive in drawing up the above-mentioned ranking – is calculated in a general way by adding the total number of points obtained in a given season in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. As highlighted, in the case of the Club World Cup, only the points obtained in the Champions League count.
The coefficient of a club in the four seasons is obtained by adding the coefficients of the previous four seasons, or by considering 20% of the coefficient of the respective federation in the four years. The higher value of the two is used. The points in the Champions League are awarded as follows:
2 – For each win from the group stage onwards
1 – For every draw from the group stage onwards
4 – Bonus for participation in the group stage
4 – Bonus for participating in the round of 16
1 – For each round reached by a club from the round of 16 onwards
