On the iconic Assen track, the MotoGP riders took to the track for the eighth round of the 20224 championship. Bagnaia triumphed again.
As soon as the lights went out, poleman Pecco Bagnaia had a perfect start, managing to immediately pull away from Jorge Martin. The Turin native, in great form after a string of 3 wins in a row, snatched the best time in qualifying, immediately turning into turn 1 in first position. Behind Martin and Bagnaia, Alex Marquez rose up. The latter overtook Maverick Vinales at the start and put himself in contention for a podium finish. The Spaniard from Aprilia, future teammate of Enea Bastianini in the KTM Tech3 team, immediately had to watch out for the return of Marc Marquez. The latter, author of an excellent start, went from seventh to fifth position. The rider from Cervera is taking big risks riding the GP23 to achieve great results.
After a few kilometers Marc Marquez went down, sending his podium chances into the gravel. In his head he only has his next adventure in Ducati in the factory team. This year the absolute favorite seems to continue to be Pecco Bagnaia. The latter immediately tried to escape, gaining a couple of tenths on Martin. The reigning champion is adopting, in the early stages of the race, often the sprint tactic.
Holland, super challenge at the top
The top two in the drivers’ standings put on a show. Behind them Vinales overtook Alex Marquez and took third place. Pecco set a blistering pace and escaped, lap after lap, from the Madrid rider’s radar. For the first time, Martinator took to the track knowing that he will not be riding a Desmosedici next season.
Bagnaia extended his lead to over a second over Martin, while Vinales dropped to over 3 seconds in the final laps. Bastianini moved up the ranks of Alex Marquez. The latter exceeded the track limits too many times and was forced to receive a long lap penalty. Bastianini passed without worries, taking advantage of the chance.
