It’s finally starting. The long-awaited Tour de France 2024 kicks off today, with the historic start from Italy. It starts in Florence and arrives in Rimini in an already very intense first stage. Let’s discover it in detail with the route, altimetry, favorites, program and TV schedule.

PATH

We start from Florence to arrive in Rimini after 206 kilometers and almost 4000 meters of altitude difference. It will start with the transfer inside Florence, with the entire center route, between Piazza Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Piazzale Michelangelo and the kilometer zero located in Bagno a Ripoli. A slight climb through Pontassieve, Rufina and Dicomano to then climb the Three Beech Pass second category on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines (12.5 km at 5.1%), you will then arrive in Emilia-Romagna to climb the Fork Pass (2.5 km at 6.2%, third category). There will not be a moment’s rest between Carnaio Pass (10.5 km at 4.6%, third category), Barbotto (5.8 km at 7.6%, second category), Saint Leo (4.6 km at 7.7%, second category), Montemaggio (4.2 km at 6.6%, third category) e San Marino (7.1 km at 4.8%, third category) and the last summit 26 km from the finish line, before gliding towards Rimini.

ALTIMETRY

FAVORITES

Who if not Tadej Pogacar? A classic route, almost similar to a Liège, perfect for the characteristics of the Slovenian from UAE Emirates who will be able to take advantage of the support of a stellar team to line up the group and try to create the first gaps. If they were in shape, the Belgians Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert would be the first opponents, but at the moment they are not 100%. Obviously keep an eye on Mathieu van der Poel, reigning world champion and hunting for another Yellow Jersey after the one in 2021. There are many possible outsiders. From the Italian side, the hope is obviously Alberto Bettiol, in front of his home crowd with the tricolor on his shoulders. Also keep an eye on Tom Pidcock, Maxim Van Gils, Matteo Jorgenson and Santiago Buitrago.
