Calhanoglu spoke to Bild about the match won against the Czech Republic and in view of the match against Austria
Interviewed by Bild after the victory against the Czech Republic with a momentary 1-0 goal, Hakan Calhanoglu opened the drawer of memories given that the match was played in Hamburg, the club for which Hakan played in 2013-2014:
“It was great to play at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg again after ten years. And then to score here in a match at the European Championship. My farewell was not pleasant and I was not given good advice. That’s why I’m still disappointed. Hamburg is a fantastic city and the fans are great. My heart is still with the Hamburg fans. The city deserves promotion, I hope they recover and return to the Bundesliga.”
Calha will miss the match against Austria due to disqualification:
“For me, our next opponent is one of the potential surprises of the tournament. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to help my teammates on the pitch. I’m a little disappointed about the yellow card. As captain, I approached the referee and wanted to talk to him. He immediately showed me the yellow card and I don’t know why. I was speechless at that moment and now I’m suspended. 18 cards? I spoke to the captain of the Czech Republic at the end of the match. He was also very disappointed and said that the referee ruined the whole match with so many yellow cards. It was difficult to communicate with him. He often ignored us.”
