Route and Participants Tour of Slovakia 2024

All ready for Tour of Slovakia 2024. The short stage race, now in its 68th edition, takes place this year at a different time in the calendar from the usual location, sharing a few days of racing with the Tour de France, but will always be divided into five days, from 26 to 30 JuneThe route offers opportunities for all types of riders: after the team time trial Dunajská Streda in the inaugural stage, in fact, the runners will tackle two stages which on paper wink at fast wheels, before moving on to decidedly more challenging routes over the weekend, including the final stage which includes the only uphill finish at Štrbské Plesowhere Remi Cavagna’s successor will be crowned.

Tour of Slovakia 2024 route

The first stage features a team time trial measuring 28.8 kilometers in length with start and finish in the city of Dunajská Streda. The length of the test combined with the extreme technicality of the route, which alternates a central part characterized by long straights with a tortuous final and the complicated passage inside the Slovakiaring car circuit, will undoubtedly create the first important gaps in the general classification with the less well-equipped teams in the team time trials that could leave a gap of well over a minute behind the time trial specialists.

The second fraction presents a difficult path to interpret. In the 192 kilometers that the runners will be able to Nitra to HlohovecIn fact, there are five Mountain Grands Prix scattered around, including that of Dlhý vŕšok, a climb classified as first category, five kilometers long and with an average gradient of 4%. On paper the stage seems destined to end with a group sprint, especially considering that the last GPM of the day is over 60 kilometers from the finish line. Be careful, however, at the end: the last kilometer in fact presents a tear that could put a spoke in the wheels of pure sprinters and favor a finisseur attack.

The path of the third stage, however, is more linear Piešťany to Dubnica nad Váhom, which measures 161.2 kilometers. The three GPMs that the runners will face along the route do not represent real difficulties and everything suggests that it will be the pure sprinters who will play their cards in a final group sprint. In the fourth stage, however, the real difficulties begin: the 183.5 kilometer stage Partizánske to Ružomberok in fact it presents 7 GPM, including two first category climbs, Šturec (10.5 km at 3%) and Donovaly (10.5 km at 5%) which, although not presenting impressive numbers, can make a difference also considering that they are both placed in the second half of the stage, after the riders have already faced over 25 kilometers of ascent. Once the climb to Donovaly has reached the top of the hill, the difficulties are not over, in fact, in the finale the race faces a circuit to be repeated twice in the area around Ružomberok which includes the Kalvária climb, which could be the perfect springboard for those who want to win the stage.

The fifth and final stage will be the one that will definitively mark the general classification. The 142.3 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš to Štrbské Pleso they expect a relatively calm first half of the stage, but after the Starý Smokovec climb inserted around the 60th kilometer, the riders will no longer face a meter of flat terrain. After passing through the second category GPM, in fact, the group will enter the final circuit which will be repeated three times and which includes the climb of Štrbské Pleso (8 km at 5%). Although it does not present excessive gradients, the length of the climb and the lack of breathing moments will undoubtedly be decisive in deciding who will wear the Yellow Jersey and take home this Tour of Slovakia.
