The driving experience will no longer be the same: the steering wheel of the future will be like that of Formula 1, a revolution on the way
Have you ever dreamed of driving one Formula 1? You will probably never be able to do it in your life but, before long, you could have a similar experience by getting into your car, thanks to a new steering wheel that will be reminiscent in every way of that of the fastest single-seaters in motorsport. A real revolution that could completely change our driving experience, at least as we have known it up to now.
On the other hand, if you think about it, over the years we have witnessed a real continuous evolution of the ruffleAnd. We have gone from the first, large and rather thin ones, to increasingly smaller, easier to handle steering wheels, made of different materials, sometimes of high quality, equipped with technologies more suited to the driver’s comfort.
In recent years, keys, buttons and levers have appeared on the steering wheel that are useful for trying to ‘control’ the entire car without having to take your hands off. But this is only a first step towards one new revolution which could completely change the concept of this device as we have known it so far, at least off the track.
Flying like in Formula 1, turning point coming: the photos are amazing
What brought the steering wheel of a car intended for the public closer to that of a Formula 1 was Peugeot. In the recent edition of the technology fair VivaTechthe French car manufacturer has presented a car that seems destined, in every way, to transport us towards a future that is nothing short of innovative.
Is called Inception Concept and it is an electric car equipped with a super motor and a 100 kWh battery, capable of guaranteeing a range of 800 kilometers on a single charge. But the detail that most struck the public is another: the presence of a steering wheel that recalls that of a Formula 1.
It was renamed Hypersquare and it is the most technologically advanced evolution of the steering wheel concept itself. Partly inspired by those of Formula 1, it can be compared to that of sports cars in terms of shape rather than the number of buttons. In fact, it boasts a rectangular design, furthermore enriched by a screen with circular cells in the corners.
More than a steering wheel, a real control panel. Thanks to this device, the driver will be able to simply control all the car’s functions with a touch of his fingers, from the audio to the climate, without ever taking his hands off the steering wheel, at least potentially. All to guarantee the safety that is always necessary when driving.
A true technological jewel presented with enthusiasm by Linda JacksonCEO of Peugeot: “Functionality and ergonomics now play a fundamental role, because we now spend a lot of time inside our cars“. It remains to be seen how long we will have to wait to see Hypersquare on a car on the market and whether this type of steering wheel will be able to ‘learn’.
