The Catalan stage of the 2024 world championship certifies the growth of Mercedes, finally back close to the top after many difficulties. In Spain the Brackley team did even better than a Ferrari which, despite the updates, failed to grab the podium, closing the race behind Hamilton and Russell.
The checkered flag at Montmelò brings smiles to the faces of the Mercedes men. The same cannot be said for the boys of the Prancing Horse, “only” fourth strength in Catalonia and still forced to chew bitterly after the Canadian debacle. For a Mercedes that is growing there is a Ferrari that – after Monaco – is encountering some more difficulties than expected. The question to Lewis Hamilton is automatic: “Do you have any second thoughts about your choice for 2025?”
The British betrothed to Vasseur’s team has no hesitations in his response: “No. In no way!”he explained to journalists at a press conference.
“I am trying to say, first of all, that I love Mercedes. I’ve been with them since I was 13 and will always be a Mercedes fan“, he set the English class of ’85 as his premise. “My job this year is to work hard with the guys here and in the factory to grow and develop the car in the right direction. Also in view of next year there will be things in which I will also have proudly played a role.”

Mercedes’ growth in this 2024 championship can only satisfy Lewis, but 2025 will be another page to be written with Ferrari. “Next year I will start working with another team that I think he’s doing a great job.”
Hamilton is already wearing Ferrari red and defending the Cavallino. No second thoughts, the choice is not discussed and the redhead’s situation is not critical: “I think they had a couple of difficult races, but we shouldn’t forget about the victory in Monaco. I can’t tell you what they have to fix with their car and why they occupied those positions in Spain.”
