Before the Tour de France the champion from Leeds decided to return to mountain biking and his condition appears extraordinary, also in view of the Olympic event. Pidcock immediately took command of the race and, little by little, he increasingly increased the gap towards all his pursuers: the Englishman did not allow the Swiss Mathias Fluckiger to remain attached to him. The Swiss paid from the fourth lap onwards and in the final he limited himself to managing second position, without going overboard to try to stay close to a rider stronger than him.
Fantastic third position for the blue Luca Braidot, author of a race that improved compared to all the others: he was unable to stay close to the best from the second lap, he kept his pace and took advantage of some collapses of his opponents at the end of the race, above all those of the Swiss Nino Schurter and the German Julian Schelb. Another excellent placing for Italy comes thanks to the sixth position gained by Nadir Colledaniwho arrived 2’52” behind Pidcock and ahead of the German Schwarzbauer in the final sprint.
