Matteo Berrettini is back on the grass. What assessment can be made so far? There are those who don’t see him as fit.

He played a final in Stuttgart and lost to Draper, an old-fashioned, left-footed grass player, so much so that he took out Alcaraz at Queen’s. So Berrettini went to the hole, there was a revival with the final in a 250. In Halle, however, he made a misstep because Giron was within his reach, but a Berrettini among the unseeded at Wimbledon, which will be 32, he is certainly one of the worst players for the seeded players to face. But, going forward with the tournament, no longer having the physicality and form of the past, he will tend to get lost. Therefore, meeting Berrettini in the early rounds can be dangerous. It wouldn’t be a walk in the park if Sinner or Alcaraz met Matteo.

But is it just a small awakening or is there hope?

Berrettini has made it clear that he can make it back and is a protagonist on the circuit, because, if he’s lucky in the draw, he gets two or three rounds and gets back into the top 50. But I think it’s very unlikely that he gets back into the top ten.

Alcaraz beaten by Draper and so Carlos will now return to number three.

He has absolute tops, but in terms of performance he is much less efficient than Sinner. What Alcaraz does is a continuous in and out. He is someone who won at Roland Garros and went out like that at Queen’s. It’s true that usually the players who occupy the first three or four places in the rankings count towards the Grand Slams, but in the meantime he has lost points compared to Sinner. He had to defend his victory at Queen’s and instead lost in the second round.

Sinner lost in doubles, but barely won in singles. Does that mean weed just isn’t for him?

This is not the case, absolutely. On grass, matches are much closer in scoring due to the surface. A 7-5 on grass is like a 6-2 on clay, so it is normal for the tiebreak or deciding set to go further.

But what prospects does the Sinner-Musetti double have at the Olympics? Given that even in the Davis Cup Lorenzo had not shone.

Sinner-Musetti is not a doubles, it’s just a pairing of two singles players, I don’t know how they’ll go but it can’t be classified as a doubles. Doubles is now an uninhabited planet, because the great champions no longer play it as they once did, but it is played by normal tennis players who are not champions in that sector. Of course, if you combine two great singles players, they could also do well, but it’s not a doubles. It’s like putting together a shoe and a slipper which, given the times of the double which are no longer the same, could also get by. But this defines the level of the actual double, that is, cosmic nothingness.
